The NPEC aim is measure and inform enhancements to the educational quality of degree level nursing and midwifery student clinical placements. One way this is achieved is through monitoring and reporting of student evaluations. One generic primary evaluation tool – the Placement Evaluation Tool (PET) is used. There are three versions of the PET; PET-Nursing (students), PET-Midwifery (students) and PET-Supervisor (educators). The PET is considered a pragmatic measure that balances psychometric considerations against the requirements of real-life and as such minimal adjustments for appropriate context are considered valid without the need to test for every profession (Glasgow and Riley; 2013).
